Product Manager

The Product Manager reports to the Senior Director of Technology and will guide the company in increasing the profitability of existing products and in developing and releasing new products. The PM will steer the features, enhancements, and user experience for both existing and new products. The PM will help to develop new ideas and features based on industry experience, direct contact with customers and prospects and market trends. The PM represents the customer to ContentWatch.

The PM must possess a unique blend of business and technical savvy, a big-picture vision, and the drive to make that vision a reality. The PM must enjoy spending time in the market to understand customers’ problems, identify the custom profile, and find innovative solutions for the broader market.   The goal is to gain a sustainable competitive advantage in the marketplace. The PM must be self-motivated, proactive, and have the ability to produce results without close supervision. Strong business sense, entrepreneurial spirit, with the ability to work in a dynamic, high-growth organization is required.

The PM will be completely immersed in the betterment of the products and establishing clear competitive advantages. The PM will work with marketing to define go-to-market strategies, helping marketing (and sales) to understand product positioning, key benefits, and target customers. The PM will serve as the internal and external evangelist for the product offering, working with the sales channel and key customers.   Due to the technical nature of the company, the PM must have the ability to understand technical details and accurately represent the company and its products. The PM must be able to communicate and work with all areas of the company. More specifically, the PM will work with the VP of development to define product release requirements and will manage product requirements and market requirements documentation.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Be a Product Expert and Subject-Matter Expert for the Company’s Products.
  • Represent and know target customers.
  • Manage the product line life cycle from strategic planning to tactical activities, including the product roadmap, releases and updates.
  • Specify market requirements for current and future products by conducting market research supported by ongoing visits to customers and non-customers.
  • Bridge market gaps with innovative customer-centered product solutions
  • Drive a solution set across development teams (primarily Development and Marketing) through market requirements, product requirements, and positioning.
  • Provide technical and non-technical demonstrations of products to industry analysts, reviewers, publications, and customers
  • Develop and implement a company-wide go-to-market plan, working with all departments to execute.
  • Analyze and create product comparison matrices for competing and similar products.
  • Develop and write technical product requirement documents and manage product documentation.
  • Gather reviewer and publication support.  Work with reviewers and publications to provide detailed, accurate and positive reviews.
  • Create online training about product use and new features for internal and external customers.

Skills & Experience

  • Excellent organization skills

  • Proven technical writing skills
  • Must have a knowledge of software and technology products and development cycles
  • Minimum of 5 years of Product Management experience with technology products
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent customer interaction skills
  • Excellent MS Suite skills
  • Must be able to multi-task while under time constraints
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field required (CS or Engineering a strong plus)
  • MBA preferred
